Leaders and Blogs
Blogging has become a basis for sharing information and collaborating with others. As Superintendents, this can become a great way to share ideas with your leadership teams, and to gain insight from those members. Without having to take the time to meet, you can pose a "problem" to the group, and allow them to have input, input that is being shared among all the members.
Using Action Research
As Superintendents, it is our responsibility to make sure that we are engaging kids as much as possible. And, whetehr we like it or not, technology is a part of our kids' lives, and the way to engage. It is not something new to them, they have not had to "learn" it. It was here when they were born, has grown with them, and has helped define their generation. We on the other hand, were not born with technology. It has been introduced in our lifetime. It is something new, something misunderstood, and something that most of us have a hard time understanding. In order for us to engage students and to make sure that they stay engaged, we must meet them on their level. Kids today communicate in ways that we do not. Sharing information with each other is the norm. Wikipedia, YouTube, and Blogs are nothing more than collaborative learning. The sharing of information in these formats is nothing more than "Action Research" being done at the student's level on a daily basis. In order for us to comprehend and to understand where are students are, we must leave our comfort zones and participate in the "sharing of information" that defines our students. Action Research - collaborating to solve a problem - is the answer.
